How to Take Control of Your Life: Declare: I AM The Executive of My Life!

Taking control of your life can be a transformative journey. In this blog post, I’ll share five key principles that have empowered me to declare daily that I am the Executive of My Life. Embracing this mindset can lead to profound changes across all areas of your life. Whether you run a business or provide services to one, these principles can help you establish clear boundaries, make sound decisions, and ultimately take charge of your destiny.

1. I Hire and I Fire: You Are Your Own Human Resources

This bold declaration emphasizes the power of choice in your relationships. As the Executive of Your Life, you have the authority to decide who you surround yourself with. This principle revolves around setting boundaries and allowing only those who contribute positively to your growth into your life.

When you think of your life as a business, every relationship becomes a business decision. Just as successful companies acknowledge and promote valuable team members, you should recognize those who uplift and support you. Conversely, if someone is detrimental to your well-being, it's time to consider letting them go. Conduct a personal “employee review” of your relationships—determine who is helping you thrive and who might be holding you back. Remember, it’s better to have a few meaningful connections that enrich your life than numerous acquaintances who drain your energy.

2. I Delay Making Impulse Decisions: You Are the CFO

In business, critical decisions often require careful consideration and time. Similarly, as the CFO of your life, it’s essential to delay impulse purchases and major life decisions. This allows you to assess the long-term impact on your “financial health.”

Before making significant purchases, set a waiting period—ideally 24 hours—to give yourself the chance to evaluate whether this decision aligns with your values and goals. This practice not only helps you manage your finances more effectively but also cultivates a sense of discipline that extends beyond monetary decisions.

3. Money Are My Employees: Treat Them Well

A pivotal lesson I learned is to treat money as your employees. If you nurture and respect your financial resources, they will work for you and grow. Conversely, poor financial habits can lead to depletion and chaos.

When you embrace your role as the CEO of your finances, start budgeting and monitoring your spending. Just like a successful business invests in its team, you should invest in your financial literacy. This proactive approach ensures your “employees”—your financial resources—stay with you and multiply, rather than leave you scrambling.

4. Schedule Yourself Off and Schedule Others On

One of the greatest advantages of becoming the Executive of Your Life is the control you gain over your schedule. If you’re employed, you allocate time to fulfill your work obligations, and if you have a family, you dedicate time to them. However, it’s equally important to carve out time for yourself.

Make it a habit to schedule personal time, just as you would for work or family. This practice not only rejuvenates you but also allows you to be present for others. By investing time in your well-being and nurturing your relationships, you create a supportive network that fosters mutual growth and success.

5. I Am in the Business of Life

Viewing your life as a business fundamentally shifts your perspective. When you see everything around you as either an asset or a liability, it becomes easier to make choices that align with your goals. Nobody sets out to run a failing business, and the same should apply to your life.

While setbacks are inevitable, declaring yourself the Executive of Your Life means you are committed to growth and improvement. Surround yourself with assets—positive influences, supportive relationships, and beneficial habits. By consciously removing distractions and liabilities, you can focus on achieving your goals and enhancing your life.

Conclusion: Take Charge of Your Life Today!

Begin your journey to becoming the Executive of Your Life by assessing the people and resources in your life. Identify who or what are assets that support your growth and who or what are liabilities that hold you back. Review your financial habits and focus on enhancing your income while being mindful of your spending.

Take time for yourself and make time for others. This holistic approach will empower you to take control and navigate your life with purpose. Remember, being the Executive of Your Life is about making intentional choices that lead to fulfillment and success.

Embrace these principles, and you’ll find yourself not only taking charge of your life but also thriving in all aspects. Start today, and watch as your life transforms into a successful venture you can be proud of.

I've Seen Wonders: Reflections on Life's Moments

#42 1/22/2025 I've Seen Wonders: Reflections on Life's Moments Introduction: Life is a tapestry woven with experiences, each moment a thread that adds depth and color. Recently, I found myself reflecting on the extraordinary and everyday sights that have shaped my journey. Inspired by a rare snowfall in Louisiana, I wrote a poem titled "I've Seen," capturing snapshots of my life. In this blog, I break down each part of the poem, sharing the stories and emotions behind these moments. I've Seen I've seen volcanoes at rest, Their mighty peaks in calmest jest, From the Philippines to Italy, Their silent strength humbling me. I've seen dolphins on a Guam sunset, swim in sync, A fleeting dance at twilight's brink. I've seen the wintry days of Delaware accumulate ice and snow, A frozen world where whispers grow. I've seen the Statue of Liberty with her torch held high, A beacon of hope against the sky. I've seen the Vietnam Wall, so solemn and...

From Fear to Freedom: How Talking to Your Fears Can Change Your Life

#43 - 2/16/2025 From Fear to Freedom: How Talking to Your Fears Can Change Your Life Several years ago, I discovered that a simple but intense fear would overtake me every time I was making a left turn or driving along a two-lane highway. It wasn’t just any fear—it was the fear of encountering a Semi 18-wheeler coming from the opposite direction. It’s a fear that still lingers today, though I’ve found a way to manage it, and in doing so, I’ve transformed my relationship with fear in general. At first, it seemed completely irrational. Why should the presence of an 18-wheeler, a vehicle designed for long-haul travel, trigger a visceral reaction of anxiety in me? After all, I knew I was a capable driver, and the truck was just a vehicle like mine—only much larger. But no amount of logic could stop my body’s automatic response. The tightening chest, the rush of adrenaline, and the internal voice telling me to be careful—every time, without fail. But then I was given a tip that would ...

#44 - 3/23/2025 The 50/30/20 Rule: A Simple and Powerful Budgeting Strategy for Financial Success Managing your finances effectively is one of the most crucial steps toward achieving financial freedom. Yet, for many people, creating a budget can feel overwhelming. That’s where the 50/30/20 rule comes in. This simple and straightforward budgeting strategy helps individuals and families allocate their income in a way that promotes financial security and growth. By breaking your income into three categories—needs, wants, and savings—the 50/30/20 rule makes it easier to manage your spending and plan for the future. If you’re looking for a practical and proven way to control your finances, this budgeting method could be the solution you need. The 50/30/20 rule was popularized by Elizabeth Warren, a Harvard Law School professor, and her daughter, Amelia Warren Tyagi, in their 2005 book All Your Worth: The Ultimate Lifetime Money Plan. The book introduced this rule as a way to help people man...
