The Classmates Who Inspire Me Most: A Reminder That Today Is a Gift

The Classmates Who Inspire Me Most: A Reminder That Today Is a Gift

The People I Think About Most

#51 - 06/07/2026

Many of my classmates inspire me, but probably not for the reasons most people would assume.

It's not necessarily the most popular students, the star athletes, or the individuals everyone predicted would become successful. While I admire many of them, the classmates who often cross my mind are the ones who never had the opportunity to see this season of life.

As I've moved through my fifties, I've become increasingly aware that not everyone from my graduating class made it this far. Some passed away unexpectedly. Some faced struggles that became too heavy to carry. Others simply didn't wake up one morning. Their stories ended long before mine, and that realization has changed how I view each day.

The Gift of Perspective

When I look around at my life, I see plenty of unfinished goals and ongoing challenges. I still have debts to pay down, dreams to pursue, blogs to write, and relationships to nurture. I have projects that need attention and plans that are still years from completion.

Yet I also have something incredibly valuable: another day.

Perspective has a way of changing everything. The things that once felt like burdens can begin to look like opportunities. The responsibilities we carry are often signs that we are still actively participating in life. The goals we chase are evidence that we still have time to chase them.

Success Isn't Always What We Think

As we get older, our definition of success often evolves.

When we were younger, success may have meant popularity, status, titles, or material possessions. While those things can certainly have value, I have come to appreciate another form of success: simply being present.

Being here to enjoy a morning cup of coffee.

Being here to watch another sunrise.

Being here to spend time with family and friends.

Being here to learn, grow, fail, succeed, and try again.

Many people never received the opportunity to experience these ordinary moments that we often overlook.

Honoring Those Who Didn't Get This Chance

I sometimes wonder how some of my former classmates would view life if they had been given one more ordinary day.

Would they worry as much about the small inconveniences?

Would they postpone the things that mattered most?

Would they spend more time appreciating what was already in front of them?

While none of us can answer those questions, we can learn from them. Their absence serves as a reminder that tomorrow is never guaranteed and that today deserves our attention.

Making Today Count

The classmates who are no longer here remind me not to rush through life while waiting for some future destination. They remind me to appreciate the journey while I'm still on it.

Perhaps one of the greatest ways we can honor those who didn't get to see this day is by fully embracing the one we've been given.

Today may not be perfect. There may still be obstacles to overcome, bills to pay, and goals left unfinished.

But today is ours.

And that alone is something worth celebrating.

#45 - 4/20/2025 Building a Passive Income System through Flipping & Resale — How I Earned an Extra $1,000 in One Year How a Spreadsheet, a Friendship, and Facebook Marketplace Sparked a Growing Side Hustle Ecosystem Introduction: From eBay to Ecosystem If you’ve ever Googled "how to generate passive income," flipping and reselling items almost always make the list. What many don’t realize is that building a passive income system through resale takes more than just listing items — it requires structure, strategy, and the right mindset. Back in the early 2000s, I jumped on the eBay wave using dial-up internet, selling household items to make some extra cash. Fast forward two decades, and I'm slowly building a Facebook Marketplace ecosystem with my closest friend — and this time, it's much more intentional. The Early Days: Hustling on eBay I started selling out of necessity. With a military background and a budding career, every extra dollar counted....

From Fear to Freedom: How Talking to Your Fears Can Change Your Life

#43 - 2/16/2025 From Fear to Freedom: How Talking to Your Fears Can Change Your Life Several years ago, I discovered that a simple but intense fear would overtake me every time I was making a left turn or driving along a two-lane highway. It wasn’t just any fear—it was the fear of encountering a Semi 18-wheeler coming from the opposite direction. It’s a fear that still lingers today, though I’ve found a way to manage it, and in doing so, I’ve transformed my relationship with fear in general. At first, it seemed completely irrational. Why should the presence of an 18-wheeler, a vehicle designed for long-haul travel, trigger a visceral reaction of anxiety in me? After all, I knew I was a capable driver, and the truck was just a vehicle like mine—only much larger. But no amount of logic could stop my body’s automatic response. The tightening chest, the rush of adrenaline, and the internal voice telling me to be careful—every time, without fail. But then I was given a tip that would ...
